My friend Bethini asked me to post the books I am reading this year, so here it is! I am trying to finish these before school starts in August, but we shall see. Time is so scarce. Here’s the list in case you can’t read the titles:
1) The Prince, Machiavelli
2) Drown, Junot Diaz
3) Something Out There, Nadine Gordimer
4) The Childhood of Jesus, J.M. Coetzee
5) Beneath the Underdog, Charles Mingus
6) Home, Toni Morrison
7) Percival Everett By Virgil Russell, Percival Everett
8) Americanah, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
9) Panther In The Hive, Olivia A. Cole
10) The House on Mango Street, Sandra Cisneros
11) A People’s History of the U.S., Howard Zinn
By the way, I’m starting at the bottom and working my way up. I’m not a critic and I’ve always hated book reports, so I MIGHT do a write up if the spirit moves me. Maybe. If I did, it would have to be on Morrison’s book because I’ve read that before. I don’t believe that art is fairly judged based on first impressions. But that is another discussion for another day 🙂
Let me know if you read one of these, or already have. I do enjoy a lively literature discussion.
